JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: TAX ADMINISTRATOR

SALARY: Based on qualifications and experience

HOURS: 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM, Monday- Friday. It is expected that some work will be performed outside the normal work hours, as may be necessary.

SPECIFICATION: Responsible for supervisory and administrative duties in planning, directing and coordinating a comprehensive county- wide tax program. Work includes assessment, listing, billing, collection and the maintenance of county records. Work includes providing the county manager and county board of commissioners with timely and informative financial reports and statements. Work involves the legal responsibility for collection of all current and delinquent taxes. Work is performed under the general direction of the county manager and is evaluated through periodic conferences, reports and an annual audit of all tax records.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of county tax laws affecting the appraisal, listing, billing, and collection of taxes; thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and practices used in the assessment of commercial, industrial and residential property for tax purposes; considerable knowledge of current commercial, industrial, and residential construction cost and land values; considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including the handling and accounting for large sums of money; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, co-workers, county officials and the general public.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in accounting, financial management, business administration, public policy or public administration preferred; considerable experience in local government financial management and supervision; or equivalent combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be certified by the North Carolina Department of Revenue within two years from the date of appointment. Position is appointed by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners for an initial two- year term; reports to the county manager.
