The Extension Service is a partnership involving the U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, and our two land-grant universities: North Carolina State University at Raleigh and North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.

Economic Development provides services to retain existing businesses and attract new ones to the County by conducting outreach activities through business visits, conferences, and workshops. Economic Development also serves as liaison to business organizations to identify and to assist new and expanding companies. The department provides land use planning expertise and economic analysis. Assistance includes needs assessment, financial and training services, site identification, development expediting, and coordination.

Cherokee County EMS operates an advanced service at the Paramedic level. Our service has two stations. Station 1 is located in the County Annex building in Murphy. Station 2 is located next door to District Memorial Hospital in Andrews. We have two Medics at each station and two on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Cherokee County Health Department assures the provision of integrated services addressing the health and human service needs of Cherokee County residents. The department develops and implements policies and procedures which further this end and maximizes the resources available for direct, customer-oriented services while maintaining adequate management oversight at minimum costs. It also develops and maintains a broad network of community, non-profit, public, and private sector delivery organizations in a sustained and substantial partnership.

The Department of Information Technology assists the County in using information technology where it adds the most value and increases productivity. The Department's efforts also help to deliver information and services to citizens at work, at home, and in the community.

A GIS is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, personnel, and geographic data that is utilized to create, maintain, store, analyze, and display geographically referenced information. Many of the County's departments and officials, and other public agencies as well as the private sector are now using the Mapping /GIS Department to help them to turn raw data into spatially referenced information.  This in turn, allows the county and the public to better organize workflow, identify relationships, patterns, and trends occurring in our county; and to provide solutions to everyday problems.

The Department of Recreation  provides citizens of all ages (children/adults) of Cherokee County, regardless of age, race, or sex with recreational programs for fun and a healthier Cherokee County.

The Senior Center offers a wide variety of programs to the citizens in Cherokee County who are 60 years of age or older or the spouse of someone 60 years of age or older, and priority is given to those meeting or exceeding the poverty level.

Sheriff's Department

The Sheriff’s Office serves the Circuit and District Courts in the conduct of judicial affairs. The Office provides transport and custody of prisoners and provides a safe environment for the daily operations of judicial activities, employees, and visitors in the courthouse.

The Cherokee County Department of Social Services provides the residents of Cherokee County with Federal and State mandated Human Services. The mission of this Department, as set forth by the County Commissioners, is "to serve the citizens of Cherokee County efficiently and effectively with compassionate and positive attitudes in order to enable these citizens to realize the need to strive for self-sufficiency which in turn fosters a more positive self-image, thus improving their quality of life."
