| PATROL - The Patrol
Division provides services to all of Cherokee County, which is
approximately four hundred and sixty-six square miles.
The Division is comprised of
three overlapping nine-hour shifts that cover six zones and each deputy
is assigned to patrol two or more zones.
INVESTIGATIONS -
The Criminal Investigations
Division is responsible for the investigation of serious crimes that
occur in Cherokee County. The Division is staffed with five full-time
detectives and is supervised by Detective Lieutenant Jerry Crisp.
Detectives not only receive cases assigned for
farther investigation from the Patrol Division, but they also work with
the Department of Social Services and independent leads in their pursuit
of justice. In addition, the unit has specialized training on crimes
involving Internet Crimes Against Children and other electronic crimes.
VICTIM ADVOCACY -
It is the mission of the Cherokee County Victim Assistance Program to
identify and promote access to the opportunities and resources victims
need in order to recover from a traumatic event. In addition, this unit
will strive to promote justice for victims, by ensuring a voice for
victims.
MULTIPLE AGENCY NARCOTICS UNIT -
MAN Unit is a multi-agency (Cherokee &
Clay County Sheriff’s Office) drug task force designed as a regional
partnership to disrupt, investigate and prosecute illegal drug
activities. Obtaining, corroborating, disseminating and acting on
intelligence information are the basis of the Units operations. The
primary goal of the Unit is to significantly reduce the availability of
dangerous drugs within our communities.
SHERIFF'S EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM -
The Sheriff's Emergency
Response Team, or S.E.R.T. is a
multi-jurisdictional unit that has the primary responsibilities of
responding to hostage situations, barricaded criminals, high risk
warrant service, and situations that are beyond the capability of
standard police tactics, training, and resources. S.E.R.T.'s number one
goal in any call out is the protection of lives and the safe resolution
of the incident. Through strenuous training and extreme dedication,
S.E.R.T. members are ready for any situation.
DETENTION CENTER - The Cherokee
County Detention Center, constructed in 1922, was designed to hold a
maximum of 43 inmates awaiting trial. However, the Detention Center is
currently responsible for over an average of 80 inmates per day, which
include both those awaiting trial and those currently serving a
sentence. In order to meet the ever-increasing demand, a new facility is
currently being constructed that will expand capacity to 114 inmates.
CHAPLAIN - No
one is confronted with more situations that demoralize and create
emotional, mental and spiritual burdens than today's law enforcement
officer. These burdens also affect the officer's family and other
members of his or her
department. Law enforcement agencies need the specialized guidance,
counseling and assistance for their officers, families and communities.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - As criminals evolve, so must the
resources, training, and technology that is used to catch them.
Thru more efficient Record Management Systems, Remote Wireless Hotspots,
and Mobile Terminals in the Patrol Cars, the IT Division is charged with
ensuring that the technological needs of the department are continually
met.
