PRENATAL CLINIC
The physicians and health department staff provide routine care and education
regarding pregnancy, nutrition, and childbirth classes and parenting classes.
Prenatal clinic is held weekly. 6 Week Childbirth Class Series
(sliding fee scale applied to those eligible)

FAMILY PLANNING
A gynecological exam and method of birth control are provided to clients
through this clinic program. Education and counseling about birth control
are also provided. Services are confidential and a sliding fee scale is
applied to those eligible. The clinic is staffed by female nurse practitioner
and female public health nurses.

HEALTH EDUCATION
Health education and safety programs are provided for individuals, community
organizations, schools and clients within Cherokee County. The health
educators promote healthful lifestyles in social and physical environments
that support healthful living.

HEALTH CHECK
The Health Check Program works with the local doctors; health department
and Department of Social Services to help children actively involved in
preventive health care. The Program also promotes NC Health Choice, the
insurance product sponsored by the States to assist parents who do not
qualify for Medicaid.

MATERNITY CARE COORDINATION
Public health nurses are available to serve as a maternity care coordinator
to assist the expecting mother with appointments, transportation, counseling
and referral to other resources she may need during her pregnancy.

CHILD SERVICE COORDINATION
Public health nurses are available to serve as a child service coordinator
to assist the family with children from birth to five years of age. A
child care coordinator is available to assist families in obtaining services
such as developmental evaluation, daycare, transportation, medical, family
counseling and special needs.

PEDIATRIC CLINIC
A physician provides complete well child exams. Referral and follow-up
treatment are arranged for patients requiring the services of specialized
clinics who meet income guidelines.

NURSE SCREENING
Children are given a physical exam by a registered nurse to provide a
means of early detection of abnormalities or problems so that follow-up
treatment can be secured through the health department or a private physician.

Provides assistance to citizens in applying for free medications from
pharmaceutical assistance programs.

BREAST/CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM
A monthly clinic is offered to income eligible women 50-64 years of age
to screen for breast and cervical cancer. Women with abnormal findings
are case managed through diagnosis and treatment.

IMMUNIZATION
Immunizations are available to children birth to 18 years of age free
of charge. Service is available Monday through Friday. Immunizations are
available for adults although certain fees may be charged.

WOMEN, INFANT AND CHILDREN
WIC is a nutrition and health program for pregnant women, new mothers
and younger children. WIC provides extra food and nutritional education,
and breastfeeding support.

LABORATORY SERVICES
A special 38-item blood chemistry profile is available for $25.00. Other
lab services can be provided with a physician's order. All lab services
are on a walk-in basis. Chemical and bacteriological watering testing
are available for $10.00 per test.

Case management and drug therapy are provided for tuberculosis and sexually
transmitted diseases.
