Promoting the well-being of older adults
The Senior sites are committed to operating in
accordance with the National Institute of Senior Center Standards.
The Cherokee County Senior Sites offer the following programs.
- Congregate Activities
- Congregate Nutrition
- Peer Socialization
- Home Delivered Meals
- Home Improvement Assistance
- Transportation
- Agency Referrals
- Senior Education on various topics
Congregate Activities:
Exercise classes, Blood pressure check-ups,
Bingo, Games, Field Trips, Picnics, music, as well as, Holiday and
Birthday parties.
Congregate Nutrition:
At 11:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday a nutritious
meal is served at senior sites. Contributions are encouraged.
Seniors need to call a day ahead to reserve a meal.
Home Delivered Meals:
Volunteer drivers take a nutritious, catered
meal to the homebound citizens who are 60 years or older and their
full-time, unpaid caregivers. These homebound people must be unable
to cook nutritious meals, due to physical and / or mental
impairments. Contributions are encouraged. Cancellation of a meal
requires one day’s advance notice.
Home Improvement Assistance:
Cherokee County offers this service to senior
citizens who are low-income and cannot afford to have the repairs
done. These services include: Building ramps, repairing steps and
porches, leaking roofs, heating or water problems, replacing old
appliances, etc.
Transportation:
Rides are provided by Cherokee County Transit
for seniors to visit the senior sites for lunches, activities,
medical appointments, shopping, pharmacy, banks, post office, etc.
One days advanced notice is required and contributions are
encouraged.
Agency Referrals:
Many seniors need other help and we provide
information about other agencies: Social Services, Health
Department, Food Pantry, Home Health Agencies, SHIIP (Senior Health
Insurance Information Program), Social Security, Vision, Hearing and
PDP (Prescription Drug Program). |
