Department Profile

Cherokee County 911 received its first 911 call February 25, 2000. We started out receiving all 911 calls for the county. We dispatched for Emergency Medical Services, Fire and Rescue Departments and Andrews Police Department. We would transfer non-emergency calls to the appropriate agencies including the Sheriffs Office. After our first month we started full dispatch for the Sheriffs Office. Since February we have received over 20,000 emergency and non-emergency calls.

Eight full time and three part time employees staff our center. Two Telecommunicators man the center around the clock. Every Telecommunicator is required to attend North Carolina Justice Academy for the Telecommunicator Certification, and EMD certified through Medical Priority Dispatch.EMD certification
