Public Open House on Updated Flood Risk Data for Cherokee County
Cherokee County will host a Public Open House on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 p.m., to review and discuss the latest updates to local flood hazard and flood risk data.

Public Open House on Updated Flood Risk Data for Cherokee County
Cherokee County – Cherokee County will host a Public Open House on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 p.m., at the Cherokee County Senior Services Building, located at 69 Alpine Street Murphy, NC 28906.
Residents and business leaders in unincorporated Cherokee County and the Town of Andrews are invited to attend a public open house on Wednesday, October 29, to review and discuss the latest updates to local flood hazard and flood risk data.
The open house will provide community members with an opportunity to:
• View and discuss the results the latest updates to their flood hazard data.
• Ask questions about the updated flood studies and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
• Learn how to submit appeals or comments regarding the revised studies.
County staff will be available to help residents locate their properties on the updated flood hazard maps and better understand their level of flood risk. Representatives from the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program will also be on site to explain the hazard data update process, answer questions about flood insurance coverage, and provide guidance on floodplain management.
This event is open to the public, and all interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.
The flood hazard data is accessible online at https://fris.nc.gov/.
