PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners announces its intent to adopt a resolution increasing the Cherokee County room occupancy tax by an additional two percent (2%), for a total room occupancy tax of six percent (6%), to take effect July 1, 2026. The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on May 4th at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of receiving public input on this matter. The public hearing will be held at the Cherokee County Courthouse, Room 342, 75 Peachtree St., Murphy. Public comments can also be submitted to the Clerk to the Board at maria.hass@cherokeecounty-nc.gov. 

Owners/managers of accommodations, including hotels, motels, tourist camps, bed & breakfasts, cabins, resorts and cottages or similar places within Cherokee County rented for periods of less than 90 consecutive days per renter; are currently required to collect four (4%) Occupancy Tax on the gross rent charged.
