Sheriff's Office Citizen Academy

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the introduction of its Citizen Law Enforcement Academy (C.L.E.A.) and is currently accepting applications for 2018 classes.

The Citizens Law Enforcement Academy is a free 10 week course that meets from 6 until 9 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays. The Academy is open to all Cherokee County residents, employees, and business owners age 21 and over.

Educational Opportunities

The Academy provides students with hands-on training and law enforcement knowledge in a friendly environment. The course is run by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and all presenters in this program are Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office employees. Topics include the history and workings of the Office of Sheriff, Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations, Narcotic Investigations, Civil Process, Victims Advocate Program, Detention Center and inmate transportation, Dispatch Center, Gun Purchase and Conceal Permits, Courthouse Security, Constitutional Law, and the Judicial Process.

Goal

Our goal is to build a closer bond with the citizens and business owners of Cherokee County through communication and education. The objective of the Citizen Police Academy is not to train an individual to be a “Reserve Police Officer” but to produce informed citizens.

The Citizen Law Enforcement Academy is a great program for any citizen who wishes to learn more about the field of law enforcement and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
